In a move we certainly weren’t expecting, EA has laid off an unknown number of staff across its Battlefield studios, citing a “realignment” as the core reason.
This comes as a bit of a shock, especially since Battlefield 6 has now sold an estimated 20 million copies since launch last year. The initial launch saw the latest title in the series get a “mostly positive” review score on Steam and sell seven million copies in just three days.
It’s faced criticism since, including being accused of using AI and over-monetization of the title. Complaints got so bad that Season 2 had to be delayed to allow developers time to fix community-reported issues.
Player numbers have fallen by over 90% since launch, which could certainly play some part in the layoffs, but for now, nothing is confirmed. We simply do not know how the active player base on console has changed, however.
This is all less than a month after they released a new three-month roadmap for the game, featuring three new updates in three months. We only have eight days to go until Nightfall, the name of the February patch, is supposed to launch on March 17. So far, it appears as though the roadmap won’t see any immediate changes.
While EA is preparing to be acquired, there’s no information on whether this has anything to do with the layoffs. We can only speculate, and rumors are that the layoffs have nothing to do with the acquisition.
An EA spokesperson told IGN that “Battlefield remains one of our biggest priorities,” despite the layoffs. They also said that they will continue to invest in the franchise.

The Command Wing is a specialized area in the Pinwheel Base on Outpost that you might need to visit in Marathon for various reasons.
For starters, you can find some amazing loot unless a runner has already searched it. You might also need to visit the area as part of certain contracts that will provide you with extra rewards. There’s plenty to gain in a nutshell, but for that, you have to unlock the area.
How to unlock the Command Wing in Marathon
When you reach the Command Wing for the first time, you’ll find that the area is locked. To unlock the area, you’ll need to find two access panels. These panels are located on the other wings of the Pinwheel Base. But before that, you’ll need to get into the Pinwheel Base to access the Command Wing.
While you can check out our guide for all the methods, I will recommend the Destroyed Wing route. You need to hit four white boxes to erase the barrier that prevents you from entering the Pinwheel Base in the first place, and you’ll find one of the required panels here (right at the entrance).
Once you enter through the base floor, hit the marked spot on the image above. You’ll find one of the two hidden access panels to your left (on the base of the floor). This is right next to the entrance, so it’s the easier one to spot (assuming you enter from the Destroyed Wing).
For the next panel, you need to head right to the end of the Drone Wing section while keeping close to the left wall (take the door that goes left from the Drone Wing entrance).
Ultimately, you’ll reach the room in the image above, and the wall extension hides the panel. Interact with the panel, and you’ll now have activated both. Return to the entrance of the Command Wing and interact with the door panel to gain access.
