The 2026 calendar rolled over another month, which means we are mercifully one month closer to Grand Theft Auto 6. But May might be the biggest one yet when it comes to excitement for the new game.
November 19 is a little over six months away, but that’s a lot of time for some new information about GTA 6 to finally begin to trickle out from Rockstar Games. It’s long overdue, and if the release date is still happening, then these next few weeks are likely to be exciting.
The biggest reason to be excited about this month is that Take-Two Interactive’s quarterly earnings call is set to take place on May 21. The belief (partly fueled by hopium) by a lot of people looking forward to hearing more about the game is that Rockstar will want to have some new information out in the airwaves before then.
Where does that leave us now? In the past, Rockstar has revealed the latest GTA game’s box art first, before dropping new trailers and more information. For both GTA 4 and GTA 5, the company commissioned artists to create murals that revealed the box art. It’s reasonable to expect something similar, although I think the scope may be a bit bigger this time around.
Let’s hop in the wayback machine to April 2, 2013. That’s when GTA 5’s official boxart was shown. The cover art has since become iconic, synonymous with the biggest video game of all time, featuring Trevor, Michael in a gas mask, Franklin on a motorcycle, and the infamous iPhone selfie girl. What will GTA 6’s box art bring us from the swamps of Leonida and the fluorescent glow of Vice City? I’m excited for it, and it seems like this is the first big step we may get this month.
After the box art reveal, we can finally expect another trailer. GTA 6’s third trailer is one of the most anticipated video game trailers of all time, if not far and away the most anticipated, and with good reason. While trailer two featured some gameplay interspersed with cutscenes, we still have yet to see actual gameplay footage, or something important like the in-game HUD. And then, of course, we could get some more story details about what to expect from the journey of Jason and Lucia.
Within these reveals, we may even get an official confirmation of the game’s potentially controversial price, along with the opening of pre-orders. And then the full-fledged marketing blitz marathon towards Nov. 19 release will begin, which will include hands-on previews, deep dives, and a whole lot more. With Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick calling GTA 6 “the most spectacular piece of entertainment on Earth, in history,” then you know there’s going to be a lot of advertising going on to try and back up that claim.
Buckle up, GTA fans. The summer is going to be a hot one when it comes to revving up the hype train for GTA 6.
