Though GGG wants the game to be ‘top notch,’ PoE 2’s ‘full’ release might still launch unfinished

Path of Exile 2 is taking another step toward 1.0 with the upcoming 0.4.0 update that adds a new league, Fate of the Vaal, and the new Druid class. However, despite GGG’s best efforts, the game’s “full” release might still cut some corners and launch without all of its 12 classes.

GGG director Jonathan Rogers recently briefed the media on this upcoming update as well as prospects of Path of Exile 2‘s 1.0 launch that’d see the game finally become free-to-play and exit its early access scheme that currently costs $30 to enter.

He said that GGG is on course to launch the game in 2026, despite initially assuming it’d take some six months or so to develop from 0.1 to 1.0, and that thus far nothing has happened to indicate further pushback into 2027. However, as per PCGamesN, 1.0 doesn’t seem to mean what we think it means.

When asked about the classes, of which 12 are planned for the game, Rogers said he’s becoming more and more concerned that not all of them will be done in time for 1.0. “I would ideally want to have all of the classes out, but I sort of suspect at this point that it’s likely we won’t have all of them,” he said.

He further added that polishing the gameplay and introducing other highly-anticipated weapons and mechanics, like the swords, is more of a priority than putting every class out. He did clarify that all classes that do end up in 1.0 will have each of their ascendancies, so that’s something at least.

Path of Exile 2 is already taking quite a long time to reach its final stages and version 1.0, which could be impacted by GGG’s desire to maintain and develop both PoE games at the same time. They recently launched a proper new league for the original Path of Exile, which saw the game skyrocket past its sequel by a wide margin.

Whatever the case, Last of the Druids, i.e., patch 0.4.0, launches on Dec. 11, with a free weekend for those who want to see if the game’s current state is broad enough for them to jump in. Spoiler: yes, yes it is.

Knights of the Old Republic: fighters battling with each other using swords and lightsabers.

Star Wars is one of those universes that is perfect for video games. And, of course, there have been more than a few great ones. But only a handful were as good as the Knights of the Old Republic titles, and it appears we’re about to get more of them.

On Dec. 3, reputable leaker Kurakasis said a “big” Star Wars game was about to be announced, most likely indicating a worldwide premiere on The Game Awards. At the time, no one knew what this big game could be, but Kurakasis followed up yesterday, Dec. 6, by saying the game’s title “ends with ‘The Old Republic.'”

This is huge news. Whatever it turns out to be, it’s a return to one of Star Wars‘ most successful and most iconic subfranchises, one that spawned revolutionary singleplayer RPGs and a great MMO that is still operational.

Some fans are concerned it’s just more news about the Knights of the Old Republic remake that’s been suspended in limbo for years now, but I reckon that wouldn’t be an “announcement,” given that we already got one and know it’s coming.

It could also be a third Knights of the Old Republic game, building on the hype surrounding Wizards of the Coast’s RPGs, generated largely by the immense success of Baldur’s Gate 3. KOTOR itself retains a large fanbase to this day, with many considering it one of BioWare’s best series, coming from an era where BioWare still made great games.

Thus, there is a lot of potential in making a game set in The Old Republic, especially if it’s part of the established KOTOR series. Of course, it could turn out to be nothing special and maybe tied to existing products, but I’m still hoping for something of note.
