Sony’s big Bloodborne announcement isn’t the one we all wanted, but at this point, I’ll take anything

Bloodborne the old hunters art

Bloodborne is officially coming back. Not in the way I thought, or the way I wanted, but I’m still ready for more.

Last night at CinemaCon, Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions revealed that an R-rated, animated adaptation of the 2015 FromSoftware classic is in the works, and I’m officially pretty pumped about it. As a coper and hoper for a new game in the franchise, what other choice is there?

Personally, I think animation is a can’t-miss when it comes to films based on video game IP. As cool as it would be to watch a live-action Hunter take on a massive CGI Ludwig, an animated version may fit the world better.

Would I rather have a Bloodborne remaster, remake, or sequel on current-gen tech? Absolutely. But who’s to say that the potential success of this animated film couldn’t help make that a reality someday in the future? Not likely, but I still have a tiny bit of copium left in my tank, I think. Call me overly optimistic.

The project is being developed by PlayStation Productions, which has been on a tear with adaptations like The Last of Us on HBO, Twisted Metal on Peacock, and moves like Uncharted and the upcoming Helldivers film. Interestingly, YouTuber JackSepticEye is also a producer on the project, which will be developed by Lyrical Animation.

The animation division of Lyrical Media is already dipping into the gaming sphere with the upcoming Death Stranding: Mosquito animated film that was announced last year at the Tokyo Game Show, in case you were wondering what the vibe or what kind of look it may have. Nothing is official yet, though.

Video game adaptations are all the rage, whether it’s TV or movies, the latter of which just saw The Super Mario Galaxy Movie cross $600 million at the worldwide box office. This Bloodborne project will likely be way smaller in scale, but the intersection of films and games won’t be ending any time soon.

And for now, the game itself will be relegated to the PS4 and modded PC ports, unfortunately. But maybe this movie could help change that.

Players exploring the world of Windrose

Windrose‘s map might appear pretty small at first, but it expands quickly once you explore new areas. After a certain point, traveling from one point to another will take a lot of time, whether you travel the distance on land or by ship.

Thankfully, there’s a pretty elaborate fast travel system that’s been added from the demo to the early access version.

How does fast travel work in Windrose

If you’ve played the demo of Windrose, you’ll be pretty well aware of the system in place. If you’re someone completely new, read on. Once you’ve completed the first quest and started How My Shore Adventure Began (can’t miss as it’s part of the main story), you’ll be able to smelt your first copper ingot.

Once you know how to get Copper Ingot, you’ll be able to make a Fast Travel Bell using the Workbench. You’ll need 10 Copper Ingots and three Ropes to create a bell. Incidentally, you can also get Fast Travel Bell as random loot.

To set up a network, you’ll also need to create a Fast Travel Point. You can do that from the build menu. To create a Fast Travel Point, you’ll need 20 Wood and one Fast Travel Bell.

Before you can fast travel, you’ll need at least two points in two different locations. You can create two points on the same island, but they have to be distant from one another. Fast Travel Points can only be placed near water.

When you’re on your ship, you can fast travel from any location by selecting the point. This works as long as you’re not being chased by an enemy or in active combat. If you’re walking on foot, you’ll have to travel to a Fast Travel Point manually. I am unsure as to why the system works like this, but it is what it is.

Additionally, you can also find random Fast Travel Points existing in several locations. The different faction islands also have them, and you can use those after activating them by manually traveling to those locations. Once done, those travel points will be automatically added to your network.
