How to make your island bigger in Tomodachi Life Living the Dream

Island increasing in tomodachi life living the dream

As you make new residents who call your island home in Tomodachi Life Living the Dream, you’ll soon desire more space for all the houses and buildings you need to have placed around the area. This will likely have you wondering how to make the island bigger.

You’re never told when or if your island will grow, but if you look closely, you can see a blank outline around it, indicating that you will eventually be able to increase your island size. How you actually do that is rather unclear at first, though, so here’s how to make your island bigger in Tomodachi Life Living the Dream.

How to increase your island size in Tomodachi Life Living the Dream

To increase the size of your island in Tomodachi Life Living the Dream, you need to make more Miis to increase the population in your village. The island slowly expands as the number of residents does, so creating additional characters is the only way to make your island larger.

Whenever you reach one of the population milestones that’s tied to the island’s growth, you’ll automatically get a cutscene showcasing the expansion. You don’t have to perform any other steps or tasks outside of simply expanding the current population.

How many times does your island grow in Tomodachi Life Living the Dream?

Your island expands a total of three times as you progress in Tomodachi Life Living the Dream, with the final upgrade granting enough room for the 70 total Miis you can make, plus all of the shops and facilities you can unlock. The last expansion unlocks a long time before you reach the total Mii limit, though, giving you plenty of time and space to plan for the future. All island expansions are as follows.

  • The first expansion happens when you reach eight Miis.
  • The second expansion occurs when you get to 20 Miis.
  • The third and final expansion is unlocked at 35 Miis.

How to expand your island in Tomodachi Life Living the Dream

Each island expansion grants you access to more terrain to build on, but generally, most of the newly unlocked area will be an empty ocean. You can’t place houses or other buildings on the sea, so you’ll need to work on expanding your actual island land each time you unlock an upgrade.

To do so, press X to open the menu, then scroll down to the Island Builder. Switch over to the landscaping tab, which is the third one over from the right, and use the paintbrush option to swap out the sea tiles for any kind of land, granting you new space to place houses, buildings, and other key furnishings.

If you get rid of too much ocean, you can always swap back to the sea tile to add some water back in around the island. The island’s shape, size, and terrain can be freely changed using the Island Builder at any point, so there’s no pressure when building it.

Now that you know how to make your island larger, you can shift your focus to other key tasks in Tomodachi Life Living the Dream. Next, you might want to review the personality chart to learn how to get all personalities, get Miis to live together, learn about time travel, and work on unlocking the Ferris Wheel.

Players exploring the world of Windrose

Tanned Leather is one of the more important resources in Windrose, and it has different purposes. Obtaining this leather isn’t too difficult, but you’ll need to clear a fair bit of in-game content and build an additional item.

Let’s find out how you can get a steady supply of Tanned Leather in the game.

How to get Tanned Leather in Windrose

Tanned Leather can be crafted in Windrose. For starters, you’ll need to collect raw hides. Raw hide can be obtained quite easily, but you’ll need to hunt. If you’re in the early game stage, either wolves or deer work. They’re not so dangerous, and you can kill them quite easily. You’ll also need your skinning knife in hand to get the hide.

Now that you have your hide, you’ll need to get a Tanning Rack. This item has to be unlocked via its recipe, and it allows you to dry raw hide. This process is necessary when you want to convert raw hide into Tanned Leather.

You can make Clay Bottles from the Alchemy Table. Once it’s done, you can now make Tannin with Hardwood Bark and a Clay Bottle. You’ll need this item for the production of Tanned Leather.

Once you have built and placed your Tanning Rack, add the raw hide to one of its slots. Add either a tanning agent or a source of fuel that will be consumed during the process. If you have Tannin, it will work just fine.

You’ll need to wait for some time for the process to complete. Once done, you’ll have your Tanned Leather.

How to use Tanned Leather in Windrose

Tanned Leather has plenty of use when it comes to crafting armor. Almost every mid and end-game item will need Tanned Leather. The demand for it goes up once you unlock Foothills, which is the second biome in the game.

However, you can start collecting the required materials like Clay and Rough Hides early to make things easier when you’ll actually need Tanned Leather in your inventory.
