How to get Backpack upgrades and increase inventory space in Hytale

A player using a bow and arrow in Hytale

Inventory is one of the most important things to manage in Hytale, and getting the Backpack and its upgrades is going to be immensely helpful.

When you start your adventure, you will have enough space for all the essential resources you need. However, the space will start to run out as you unlock more recipes and upgrades for your existing workstations.

How to get the Backpack in Hytale

Our first requirement for extra inventory space is to craft the Backpack. To do so, you’ll first have to craft a Workbench. At tier 1, you’ll need three stones and four logs of any type. Once done, you can upgrade the Workbench to tier 2 using the following resources.

  • 30 Copper Ingot
  • 20 Iron Ingot
  • 20 Linen Scraps

For the first two resources, you’ll need to mine Copper and Iron. Once done, put the items into a Furnace to turn them into Ingots. Linen Scraps are available when you defeat humanoid enemies (Skeletons, for example).

Once you’ve upgraded your Workbench to Tier 2, you can then unlock the recipe and create a Backpack using the following resources:

  • 16 Medium Leather
  • 8 Iron Ingot

Once you have the upgrade recipe in your inventory, move it to the hotbar. Press the RMB to consume it, and then craft the Backpack.

Once done, you’ll get an additional set of slots.

How to upgrade your Backpack in Hytale

There are two available upgrades for the Backpack. The first one is available when you upgrade the Workbench to tier 3. You’ll need the following items:

  • 40 Cindercloth Scraps
  • 8 Cobalt Ingot
  • 24 Heavy Leather

The second Backpack upgrade requires you to submit 100 Memories at the Forgotten Temple. The recipe requires the following items.

  • 1 Voidheart
  • 8 Adamantite Ingot
  • 16 Storm Leather

The default Backpack adds nine extra slots on top of all the ones available in your inventory. The two subsequent upgrades will further increase the available slots.
