How to fix Warzone ‘voice and text chat disabled due to platform restrictions’ error

Warzone BO7 season 1 operators

Nothing is more frustrating than trying to game online and chop it up with friends, but being unable to do so.

In Call of Duty: Warzone or Black Ops 7, if server issues aren’t a problem, you can sometimes run into issues where you can’t communicate via in-game voice or text chat. That makes chasing down W’s a bit harder, especially if you’re trying to call out to your friends and they can’t hear you.

CoD’s “voice and text chat disabled due to platform restrictions” error is a big problem for some gamers these days, and it’s become more prevalent in recent times. If you’re getting this error, you’re not alone, and we have some info on what it could mean.

CoD Warzone voice chat not working error

The Call of Duty “voice and text chat disabled due to platform restrictions” has been a recurring issue over the past few years, but it began to pop up a lot more during Black Ops 7’s season 1in December 2025.

Many players have reported the issue appearing and then disappearing, only to reappear again, so it may be a bug with the game that needs to be fixed by the developers. Others reported that it had to do with having an active PlayStation Plus subscription.

On Dec. 15, a Reddit user posted a screenshot of their bug report history on Activision’s website. In it, Activision acknowledged the “voice and text chat disabled due to platform restrictions,” saying this: “Teams are investigating an issue causing some players to receive notification that voice and text chat has been disabled when attempting to part up or use social features.” So, it does appear to be a bug within the game itself that needs to be fixed.

Another common reason for this issue, however, is a potential temporary chat ban from Activision. Call of Duty games monitor voice and text chat and sometimes submits automatic bans or restrictions from chat if you are labeled an offender. If you think this may be the case, you can check your CoD account’s status and attempt to appeal a ban by visiting this page on the Activision website.

There are a few steps you can take to try and fix the problem. As always, try resetting your internet or PC/console first. Then, make sure your privacy settings on the console and CoD itself allow you to use communications on the app. Also double-check that you’re in the proper chat channels within the CoD app as well.

If you’re still having problems, it’s worth posting on social media and looking for help via official Activision channels, like Activision’s feedback and bug report web page.

BO7 multiplayer fighters

Call of Duty grinders, the wait for competitive play is just a bit longer, but it’s well on the way.

Ranked Play in Black Ops 7 is not available at launch, but it’s coming before you know it. When it arrives, multiplayer gamers will have all sorts of ranks and rewards to earn as they level up and climb the competitive ladder.

Here’s everything we know about Ranked Play in BO7, including when to expect it.

When is BO7 Ranked Play coming out?

According to Treyarch and Activision, Ranked Play will be available as part of season two of BO7. The start date for season two is not official yet, but according to the season one battle pass’s in-game countdown timer, it should be on Feb. 5, 2026.

CoD seasons last about two months long, and season one began on Dec. 4, 2025. While Feb. 5 is not set in stone, it’s a likely date alongside Feb. 12 or even Feb. 19 depending on if it gets delayed or not (which is, unfortunately, always a possibility). When this season is live, Ranked Play will be live along with it.

Season two will also bring everything that CoD players expect from seasonal drops, like new weapons, new maps, new Zombies experiences, new Warzone modes, and even updates for the PvE Endgame activity. But Ranked Play is where the hardcore players will be looking to flex.

More about Ranked Play will be revealed in January 2026, but for now, players can expect more of the same when it comes to Ranked that was seen in previous titles like Black Ops 6 and Modern Warfare III, including:

  • Multiple ranks and skill divisions to grind through
  • Call of Duty League-inspired ruleset, modes, and maps
  • Exclusive rewards like camos and player cards every season
  • Plus more

Stay tuned for more official info from Activision some time after the holiday season on when to expect season two of BO7 and everything that will be included within it.
