Highguard’s second update in as many days brings a limited 5-vs-5 mode to address complaints – Jan. 30 patch notes

Highguard Condor

It’s no secret Highguard faces an uphill battle after a debut marred by disappointment after a lackluster Game Awards trailer, but the devs at Wildlight Entertainment are up to the task.

After debuting on Monday to a lukewarm reception, along with review-bombing due to performance issues on PC and other gripes, Highguard now holds a “Mixed” review rating on Steam when it comes to English reviews.

The game’s first post-launch update yesterday added some nice quality-of-life changes like FOV options on console, and now a new update for the free-to-play raid shooter just went live and is available now on both console and PC.

This Friday update heading into the weekend includes some optimization for performance problems on PC, and some other interesting additions, including a 5v5 mode that players had been begging for since day one. Check out everything we know about the update below.

Highguard patch notes today – Jan. 30

One of the main changes on console is the new slate of options to disable Motion Blur and Anisotropic Materials. That said, the biggest change may be with the game’s party size in a new playlist.

On the top right of the lobby screen, there are now four slots for teammates, and the devs have confirmed the addition of a limited five-vs-five mode to answer community complaints. Meanwhile, players on PC are reporting much improved performance thus far after the update.

Here are all of the patch notes listed by Wildlight.

5v5 playtest

This first playtest will last throughout the weekend, but the situation is fluid.

  • Raids are now 10 lives instead of 6
  • Respawns are slightly longer during raids to allow generators to be planted/defused

New base

A new base called Soul Well has been added to the options

Quality of Life

Enabled these visual settings on PC and consoles

  • Motion blur toggle for PC and consoles
  • Anisotropic materials toggle for consoles (PC has this already)

Ronaldo Lima in EA FC 25 celebrating after scoring a goal

The Icon Swaps program has returned to Ultimate Team after several years of absence, and FC 26 players can obtain some amazing rewards for free of cost.

EA Sports will be releasing 20 tokens in total for you to obtain and exchange them for rewards. The rewards include special Icon cards, repeatable packs, and evolutions. Let’s look at the best reward combinations you can pick from.

Best Icon Swaps rewards to pick in FC 26

As of writing, 10 of the 20 Icon Swaps tokens are available. Grinding them separately will take a lot of time. However, we have a shortcut for you to reduce the grind as much as possible. That said, obtaining all the tokens won’t be easy. We also don’t know what the conditions for the remaining 10 tokens will be in the future.

There could be secret tokens in the future as well, but not everyone will manage to get every token. The table below has the best rewards combination you can opt for. The choices are based on my judgments, and I have heavily gone with the current in-game meta.

No. of TokensRewardsReason
420 84+ Rare Gold Players Pack (Two Times)/Xabi Alonso Icon and 25x 82+ Rare Gold Players PackGreat fodder packs
5Tiki Taka+/Xabi Alonso Icon and 20 84+ Rare Gold Players Pack/15 85+ Rare Gold Players Pack and 20 84+ Rare Gold Players PackTiki Taka+ should be taken if you have a meta Icon. Otherwise, you can go for Xabi Alonso and a fodder pack, or just opt for pure fodder.
625 86+ Rare Gold Players Pack25 guaranteed walkouts are amazing.
725 86+ Rare Gold Players Pack and 25 82+ Rare Gold Players PackI don’t like Zambrotta’s icon card. Going for the guaranteed walkout pack is better.
825 86+ Rare Gold Players Pack and 20 84+ Rare Gold Players PackGambling on a campaign pick isn’t my cup of tea.
9Stoichkov/25 86+ Rare Gold Players Pack and 15 85+ Rare Gold Players PackOnly pick Stoichkov if you don’t have a meta attacker on the left wing.
10Iconic Attacker Glow UpAbsolutely fantastic evolution that will improve the attacking lineup of most players in the game.
11-13Iconic Attacker Glow Up and Fodder PacksPick the evolution and whatever fodder packs you can with the balance.
14-18Rio Ferdinand and fodder packs/Iconic Attacker Glow Up and Fodder packsChoose the option that suits your team more. I will be personally going with the evolution and fodder packs.
19-20RonaldoThis card is a must-have for any player at any given skill level.
