What are Power Shifts in The Sims 4?
Power Shifts are interactive items that can be used to help your Sim rise or fall in power. Luck plays a huge role in how useful they are, as all Power Shifts have the potential to go wrong, which means you may gain exactly what you need to rise through the ranks, or you might lose all your progress and end up at the bottom.
All Power Shifts in The Sims 4
There are five Power Shifts you can find and interact with, all of which are exclusive to the Royalty & Legacy expansion pack. They can only be found in Ondarion, as this is where their effects unfold.
- Simcaliber
- Crystal Slippers
- The Enchanted Mirror
- Anansi’s Well
- Noble Frogs
Where to find all Power Shifts in The Sims 4
Some Power Shifts have fixed spawn locations, while others can be found at various spots around Ondarion. Here’s where to go to get your hands on all Power Shifts in Royalty & Legacy.
| Name | Location |
|---|---|
| Simcaliber | Can be found in the plaza area in the Verdemar neighborhood. It’s very close to Ye Old Villager bar and slightly south of where the Blacksmith is located. Once you know where it is, you then need to get to work pulling the sword from the stone. Your Sim must be worthy and meet a few prerequisites to succeed at this endeavor, including being at least level eight in Swordsmanship and having Commoner Level Three Favor. |
| Crystal Slippers | Can be found in Treasure Chests around Ondarion. Look for rock spots that have a red X on them, as Treasure Chests can spawn near any of them. They generally take a while to appear and are quite rare, though. The loot you get in each chest is also random, so luck decides how easy this item is to find. |
| The Enchanted Mirror | Found on a small island in the Bellacorde neighborhood. Look for the massive lake area with a bridge your Sim can walk across to find it. |
| Anansi’s Well | Located in the Dambele neighborhood. You can find it between the Dambele Palace and Zanbira Market areas. |
| Noble Frogs | Can be found anywhere you can find regular Frogs in The Sims 4, including ponds, lakes, logs, water pumps, and other such locations. |
How to use all Power Shifts in The Sims 4
The potential benefits or drawbacks of each Power Shift are unique, so once you get your hands on one, you’ll need to know how to use it and what outcomes you may encounter. Here’s what every Power Shift can cause to unfold.
- Simcaliber – Can be used in duels or to practice the Swordsmanship skill like any other Sword. It also has two unique interactions no other Sword has, which include “Ascend to Kingdom Leader” and “Simcalibur’s Radiance.” The former raises your rank in the Noble career to 10 instantly, while the latter gives you a Confident moodlet that lasts eight hours.
- Crystal Slippers – Can be equipped and worn to a Grand Ball. At the ball, find a partner you wish to gain the favor and title of, and choose to Dance for Romance or Dance for Status with them. If successful, you’ll gain their affection or title depending on which option you choose. These magical shoes only last 16 hours, so be sure to act fast.
- The Enchanted Mirror – The mirror has a few different available interactions. You can click on it and choose to “Investigate Secrets on…” to learn a Scandal about the chosen Sim if they have one to uncover. You may also choose to “Gaze into the Future” to potentially get a boost in your career.
- Anansi’s Well – Click on the well and choose to “Ask for Anansi’s Advice” at the cost of one Simoleon. Then, examine the well further to eventually trigger Anansi’s Trials. Completing all four of them unlocks the Threadshifter Trait for your Sim, which can be used to alter your Noble and Commoner alignment at will.
- Noble Frogs – You can kiss a Noble Frog to have a shot at them turning into a Noble Sim. Transformation into a Sim isn’t guaranteed, but if they do make this transition, they’ll then take a look at your Sim and decide whether they like you. If they don’t, they’ll revert to a Frog again and vanish from your inventory. If they do, they’ll be interested in pursuing romance right away, allowing you to get engaged right away, thus inheriting their Noble title.
With all Power Shifts, there’s a chance of failure, which results in different random outcomes. Your Sim may potentially lose status, create a Scandal, feel Embarrassed for a while, or otherwise suffer, so be careful with these abilities and try to heed all warnings they mention.

Marathon is finally out. The game, which saw huge activity during its free-to-play server slam, replicated its previous success by opening to over 86,000 players, this time at a $40 price tag. Of course, this is being described as a “flop” by some, because we simply cannot have nice things in 2026.
Negative narratives around basically anything nowadays tend to form rather quickly, often propagated by people (and of course bots) who never actually experienced the thing they’re hating. It seems that nowadays, following the “Fall of Concord” back in 2024, games have to blow it out of the park every single time lest they be considered complete failures.
Highguard was a recent example, and even if that game doesn’t really scream quality at the top of its lungs, it certainly didn’t deserve the hate train coming its way, boarded almost exclusively by those without any hours clocked in the title.
And now Marathon is on the chopping block.
During its development, Marathon was marred by problems and hitches. It had several directors swapped out, had a few playtests that weren’t so well-received by those who participated in them, and so on. It crossed out every prerequisite for “development hell,” indicating the actual release would be a terrible experience for Bungie and perhaps the final nail in its coffin.
But that turned out not to be true, even during the server slam. It had over 130,000 concurrent players at that point and has over 86,000 now that the game costs $40 U.S. dollars. Nothing about Marathon tells us that it’s a flop or a failure or even underperforming for that matter.
And those are just the Steam numbers, which I imagine represent about half of its total player base, if not less.
The hate train keeps chugging along, however, no matter what.
While browsing X, I spotted one user arguing that, since Marathon is performing worse than Destiny and the recently released Slay the Spire 2 (which costs about 50 percent less than Marathon), it must be considered a “complete flop of a game” and, of course, as “Concord 3.0″ (the other one being Highguard).
“Marathon is dead on arrival,” another user wrote. Dexerto, a video game outlet, also compared Slay the Spire 2‘s performance to Marathon, saying the former “beats out” Bungie’s shooter, as if the two were ever comparable, both in price and genre.
The narrative is forming and slowly being propagated by so many people and even news outlets, who use superficial arguments to frame a game as a failure despite the fact that it had probably earned over three and a half million USD if we go by Steam’s concurrent numbers alone, which are in fact much larger, especially when consoles are taken into account.
And what’s worse, it’s people who either didn’t play the game or haven’t even seen what it has to offer. Those who did say it’s a good title, with it having 81 percent positive reviews on Steam at the time of writing, which improved as the launch day progressed, and are set to grow as time goes by.
Compare that to Highguard‘s 45 percent and its myriad of regions that have it at mostly negative or even worse. Highguard was also a free game that ended up flopping, whereas Marathon is already raking in a lot of cash that should see it sustained for the foreseeable future.
Online arguments and narratives have become so toxic and tiresome, to the point where I’m almost willing to give up on trying to reason with people and to pragmatically view every single game on a case-by-case basis. Why do we have to go out of our way to frame things negatively before they’re even out or without trying them for ourselves, at least for a little while?
I have every hope that Marathon will succeed and grow into a great game, because as I noted in one of my recent features, its art direction deserves all the praise it can get, as that’d prove to developers that giving a damn about looks (not just in terms of graphics) is crucial for a successful title.
