Subnautica 2’s traversal options are limited early on, leaving you to mainly swim around and hope for the best. While you can install a Dash Biomod, your best bet for consistent, faster travel—at least, until you unlock vehicles—is to use a Wakemaker.

All Wakemaker blueprint locations in Subnautica 2
Making a Wakemaker in Subnautica 2 requires scanning three of the tool’s fragments using your Scanner tool. Here’s a list of Wakemaker blueprint fragments you can find early on:
- Inside a metal crate 95 meters northwest of the Lifepod. Line up your compass angle between 330 and 345.
- Near an abandoned science lab, 125 meters north of the Lifepod.
- Inside a metal crate 210 meters north of the Lifepod. Adjust your compass angle to 15.
Wakemaker blueprint fragment location #1
You’ll find your first Wakemaker fragment nearby, located 95 meters northwest of the Lifepod. As you swim in the direction, look out for a platform with coral domes and metal crates scattered about. The fragment is inside one of these crates.
Wakemaker blueprint fragment location #2
The second fragment is also nearby, located 125 meters north of the Lifepod. As you approach this spot, look out for blue lights to your right and a metal platform with several tables atop it. You’ll find a Wakemaker fragment inside a nearby crate alongside some copper wire you can use for crafting later.
Wakemaker blueprint fragment location #3
The final fragment on this list is slightly farther away, located inside a metal crate 210 meters north of the Lifepod. After swimming past the Digestion Angel Comb, you’ll encounter another metal platform with crates atop it. The Wakemaker is inside one of the crates.
How to craft a Wakemaker in Subnautica 2
Before you can craft the Wakemaker, you’ll need a fully functional Fabricator for early and mid-game recipes. You’ll need to unlock base building by scanning two Habitat Tools before making the tool in your Fabricator.
After constructing a base and a Fabricator, you’ll gain full access to the Wakemaker crafting recipe. You’ll need the following resources to make it:
- Silver (1)
- Wiring Kit (1)
- Grease (1)
- Basic Battery (1)
The closest spot to find silver is 120 meters north of your Lifepod, underneath a Coral Dome cave. Although not abundant, you’ll find enough silver in this cave to make the Wakemaker. Alternatively, you can travel 350 meters to find silver near the Old Habitat.
If you picked up extra silver from the cave above and the copper wire from the second Wakemaker blueprint location, you’ll have no trouble making the wire kit. Grease, on the other hand, requires Lucifer Rotsacs, which you can harvest from Cradle Shootroot plants surrounding the Lifepod. Look out for orange-yellow bulbs inside blue plants during your search.
The final component is a basic battery. If you haven’t found one inside a storage crate during your travels, you can make one using two copper and one Acidic Raion Pouch. You’ll find copper in the Coral Dome cave from earlier, while Acidic Raion Pouches come from pink-purple plants you’ll find in caves around the map.

The Bioscanner is a pretty important tool in Subnautica 2, and we will need to unlock it to reach the end of the campaign in the early access. Moreover, we can also use it to scan alien lifeforms, which gives us more perks like extra Biomods.
Like most things inside the game, we will have to find the blueprint for this item before we get to use it.

To unlock the Bioscanner, we need to scan just one blueprint. However, we will have to travel all the way to the fourth Angel Comb in the Alien Ruins. From there, keep moving upwards until you come across a crashed Alterra starship wreck.
You can refer to the image above to find the entrance. You’ll need the Repair Tool to proceed since one of the key doorways will be inaccessible at first. Repair the door, and head to the next room. Take the door on your left in this room, and go to the next one.
You’ll find an Iso in this room resting on a dining table and an upgrade for your Tadpole submarine. Look carefully at the corner, and you’ll find a hole that goes through a chamber. Follow the chamber until you reach the end, and you’ll come across the Bioscanner. Use your Scanner to unlock the blueprint.
How to craft the Bioscanner in Subnautica 2
The Bioscanner is an upgrade over your Scanner, and you’ll need the Modification Station. You’ll also need the required resources to craft the Bioscanner. This item scans quicker, and it also allows you to check out certain lifeforms that aren’t detected by the ordinary scanner.
Moreover, you’ll also need the Bioscanner to scan the broken turbine before you can activate it to reach the end of the game (as of writing).
