The Martlet’s god roll is good enough that it may make you want to dive into Trials of Osiris, even if you’re not a PvP player. This Void pulse rifle boasts some great elemental perks, and the special Trials aesthetic is a sweet little bonus on top.

Fashion-minded players might be displeased that The Martlet ditched the classic black-and-white Trials palette for a white-and-gold color this time, but that’s about all this rifle has to disappoint.

With a stacked perk pool for both PvE and PvP and the possibility of getting a multi-perk roll, you may be out of Trials with a Martlet god roll before you know it. And if the shading gets to you, just pretend it’s an Orokin weapon from Warframe. Here are the best perks for the Martlet, in our opinion, based on perk data from d2foundry.gg.

There’s a lot to like about the Martlet for PvE, even though this is a Trials weapon. Our god roll only has two actual choices in the first column: Repulsor Brace or Firefly. The former is key if you have access to Void debuffs in your subclass, or if you’re planning on getting Destabilizing Rounds or Withering Gaze in your weapon.

When you’re not getting mileage out of Repulsor Brace, however, Firefly is the best choice here by far. It brings a little extra damage in an area upon getting precision kills, and the bump in reload speed is a nice final touch. The rest of the perks in the column focus on making the weapon feel even better, but the Martlet is already good enough at that. It’s not worth giving up a perk slot to enhance it outside of the Crucible.

The fourth column brings the rest of what makes The Martlet special for PvE. Destabilizing Rounds and Withering Gaze tie in with Repulsor Brace for a self-sufficient Overshield machine, spreading Void debuffs to keep a nearly permanent blue bar on top of your health.

Destabilizing works best because it can deal damage in an area and take down groups of enemies, but Withering Gaze is a handy, free way to weaken tougher enemies. You probably won’t need it all the time, but if you’re running solo, this might come in handy.

Our Martlet god roll has two options for improved damage numbers. Desperate Measures is a stacking damage buff that also triggers off abilities, so you can have plenty of uptime on it even in content where enemies take longer to die to bullets. Desperado boosts your fire rate after getting a precision kill, which gets extra points because of how good its rhythm feels.

The Martlet’s first column is jam-packed with PvP perks good enough for a god roll, which is par for the course for Trials weapons here. Crucible perks often rely on preference, so Headseeker and Keep Away are our top picks. Headseeker brings some forgiveness to your aim, while you’re bound to get a lot of Keep Away uptime on a weapon meant to be used at range.

Perpetual Motion is never a bad choice, since you get a few benefits just by moving. The same goes for Lone Wolf, whose buff is always active but gets stronger without any allies in the vicinity.

Pair those two with Kill Clip or Desperado, depending on what you prefer. Kill Clip triggers after any kill and bumps your time-to-kill (TTK), while Desperado specifically requires a precision final blow. It all depends on how comfortable you are with this weapon, but Headseeker/Kill Clip is our god roll.

How to get The Martlet in Destiny 2

The Martlet drops exclusively from Trials of Osiris, so there’s a chance to snag a copy of it at the end of every match in this hard-fought game mode. Wins and playing as a premade fireteam improve your odds of getting bonus drops. There’s a featured Trials weapon each week, so playing when The Martlet is on tap is the best way of getting your hands on this pulse rifle.

As of writing, 10 of the 20 Icon Swaps tokens are available. Grinding them separately will take a lot of time. However, we have a shortcut for you to reduce the grind as much as possible. That said, obtaining all the tokens won’t be easy. We also don’t know what the conditions for the remaining 10 tokens will be in the future.
