‘Sharpen your tomahawk’: Resident Evil Requiem devs tease imminent Mercenaries mode arrival

RE9 Requiem Leon

Leon S. Kennedy, your vacation time is almost over. It’s time once again to start smashing zombie skulls, but this time, on a timer.

Resident Evil Requiem’s developers are teasing “mini-game content” in an impending update very soon. This is likely to be the franchise’s beloved Mercenaries mode, where you play as a variety of characters and try to get high scores while killing enemies and keeping a running clock alive.

Mercenaries has been a mainstay in mainline Resident Evil titles for many years, going all the way back to Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. While not confirmed, the teasing by Capcom devs sure makes it sound like that’s what’s on deck.

“As we’ve mentioned, it’s a ‘mini-game,’ and it’s based on the battles in the main game,” director Akifumi Nakanishi said in a recent interview with Denfaminico Gamer. “However, for those who have cleared the main story and are thinking, ‘I still haven’t had enough fun,’ I think you’ll be able to enjoy this and go ‘Whoa!!’, so sharpen your tomahawk and wait.”

What’s even better about the wink-wink nudging in the interview is that it appears Mercenaries is very, very close. Like, within the next few weeks.

“This mini-game is content that is unlocked after clearing the main story,” said producer Masato Kumazawa. “So, if you’re planning to play it, clearing the main story during Golden Week would be just right for you to be able to play it.”

Golden Week is a holiday in Japan that runs from April 29 to May 5, and it starts tomorrow. Once that’s over, Mercenaries mode may be upon us as part of a free update to the base game at any time. A full-length, single-player DLC is still in the works, and the devs said that’s currently being worked on, but the imminent drop is almost complete.

I personally can’t wait for Mercenaries. I have many fond memories of playing it in games like RE5 and RE4. Requiem’s combat, especially with Leon, is a blast, so this one could be peak as well. I’m also excited to see the maps, enemies, and playable characters available as part of the content drop likely to launch in the next few weeks.

Pilgrim's Peak tower in ARC Raiders

The Crash Mat is a unique consumable that has been added to ARC Raiders as part of the Riven Tides update, and having the blueprint will allow you to craft the item. At its core, the Crash Mat nullifies a massive amount of fall damage if you manage to land on it by any means.

But first, let’s find out a few potential locations for the blueprint.

ARC Raiders Crash Mat blueprint location

Like every other blueprint, there’s no fixed location to find the Crash Mat. It will boil down to your luck. The item’s blueprint can spawn on any map condition. I have stuck to the Riven Tides map since the update, and it’s where I also found the blueprint.

I found mine in a random container at the beach near Hotel Panorama Azzurro. It was an ordinary container, and I had spawned in the map quite early. If you’re unlucky, you can try looking into the rooms of the hotel itself. It’s a great spot to find trinkets, which also includes the miniature ships.

You can also use the Dockmaster’s Detector during the Beachcombing minor map condition to find containers that would otherwise remain hidden. These containers can also contain the blueprint. However, the Beachcombing condition isn’t mandatory to find the blueprint; it just theoretically raises the odds of your success.

How to craft the Crash Mat in ARC Raiders

Once you have the blueprint, you can start crafting the Crash Mat with the following resources.

  • One Electrical Components: You can craft it with raw materials or find it as random loot.
  • One Durable Cloth: You can craft it from the basic cloth.

To craft the Crash Mat, you’ll also need a Tier 2 Utility Workbench. To use the item, you have to aim it at the ground. Once thrown, it will create an airbag on the ground. When you fall on the item, it will absorb all the fall damage. When used strategically, it will allow you to get out of tight situations.
