Fish are one of the most important resources you regularly need to find and use for various tasks in Palia. Finding any specific one is rather tough, and some fish are extra difficult to locate, such as the uncommon Kilima Grayling.
This fish is a great gift, essential for cooking, and needed for quite a few missions, so you’ll find yourself hunting for it pretty often. It’s a fairly tough one to find at first, but once you know where to look and what needs to be done to get it, you’ll have a much easier time. Here’s how to find and catch a Kilima Grayling in Palia.

Kilima Grayling locations in Palia
As the name of this fish hints, the Kilima Grayling fish is native to the Kilima Valley area. Specifically, it can be found in all rivers throughout this area. There are lots of different rivers you can check for it, including the one located north of Phoenix Falls, the one that’s situated north of Whispering Banks, the one that starts up by Mirror Fields and runs down to the Mayor’s Estate, and the one that’s both above and below Maji’s Hollow.
When fishing at any of these spots, there’s a chance you’ll catch any type of river fish, which unfortunately means there’s no way to guarantee you encounter one. Finding a Kilima Grayling mostly comes down to chance.
How to get a Kilima Grayling in Palia
You have a shot at getting a Kilima Grayling by fishing in any river around Kilima Valley, but you can increase your chances of encountering one by using Glow Worm bait. There are a few different ways to get your hands on this premium bait:
- Can be purchased from the Fishing Guild once you’ve reached fishing level 10. The exchange rate is 10 Fishing Medals for 20 Glow Worms.
- Can be made using a Glow Worm Farm. The recipe for this machine can be purchased from Einar for 2,000 Gold after you reach fishing level seven.
- Can sometimes be granted as a reward from a Rummage Pile.
- Can sometimes be received from Zeki’s Wondrous Machine.
Fishing is by far the most efficient and reliable way to obtain a Kilima Grayling. There is also a chance, though, that you may be granted one when collecting loot from a Boovar at your ranch. This animal grants random fish from around Kilima as a prize, so there’s no way to know what it’ll give you, which is why it’s not a reliable way of obtaining a Kilima Grayling.
Best time to catch Kilima Grayling in Palia
Many fish can only be caught during specific timeframes, but the Kilima Grayling doesn’t have a varied schedule. Instead, this fish is available to catch anytime in any river as long as you’re fishing for it within Kilima Valley.
While you’re already hard at work fishing, you might want to learn how to find and catch a Stickleback, too. And as you explore, be sure to keep an eye out for Red Eggs, Yellow Eggs, Green Eggs, and Blue Eggs, which are tough to find but essential for filling out the Bulletin Board.

Crimson Desert is a single-player game, but you don’t have to enjoy your adventures alone. While you can complete all the quests and content on your own, you can do so with your beloved pet. Obtaining your animal companion takes a bit of time when you begin your adventures, and there are two choices to consider.
But first, let’s find out how pets work in Crimson Desert.
Update: Added a table for all types of pets and their favorite food items (offers biggest boost to trust).
Table of contents
How pets work in Crimson Desert
Crimson Desert has a trust system that works between your character and animals. The trust mechanic begins at zero and goes up to 100. This system is universal for all pettable animals, which are two in the current version of the game.
- Cats
- Dogs
The process of getting a pet varies slightly based on your choice.
- If you want to pet a dog, walk up to the animal, and press the applicable button for the interaction prompt.
- If you want to pet a cat, pick it up by getting close to it. Then, select the carry prompt to pet the creature.
When you pet a creature, you gain +5 trust. You can gain up to 25 trust with an animal companion in a single day from this method.
Pets are immensely helpful when they’re active, as they help bring back the loot you get from defeated enemies. However, they will loot everything they can as there’s no filter available in the current build of Crimson Desert. However, it’s still beneficial to have them active; otherwise, you’ll be spending a lot more time getting different loot.
All pet locations in Crimson Desert
Pets, typically, are located randomly across Pywel. However, I have listed down specific ones that I have found in particular locations. The exact locations in your adventures could be different. The locations of cats, in particular, appear to be quite universal.
- Boarhounds: Hernand City (one is always near the Constabulary).
- Shepherds: Look for outposts in Hernand.
- Huskies: Can be found in colder regions of Pailune.
- Jindo: Hernand City.
- Floppy-Eared Bulldog: Near Hernand City bounty board.
- Loafy cat: Pororin Village.
- Short-Haired cat: You can find it in a corner in Pororin Village where there are several pots.
- Long-Haired, Slim cats, and kittens: Tariv, sorcerer village in Demeniss.

How to add more pets in Crimson Desert
The key to gaining a pet is to take your trust to 100. Once that’s achieved, hold the selection button and press the Claim option. This will register the dog/cat as your pet. You can have up to 30 pets for your adventure, but only one can be active at any given moment.
How to use food to gain trust in Crimson Desert
While playing with cats/dogs helps to gain trust, there’s a daily cap on that. A better way is to use food items. Feeding also helps to improve your trust with them, but there’s a daily cap as well.
- Tough Meat (Feed to a Dog for 10 trust)
- Fine Meat (Feed to a Dog for 35 trust)
- Bird Meat (Feed to a Cat for 10 trust)
- Fish (Feed to a Cat for 10 trust)
- Milk (Feed to a Cat for 10 trust)
Food items have a cap of three per day. In simple words, you can feed a creature at most three times in a given day. If you max out the daily caps, you’ll be able to gain a new pet every two days. The only exception to this is Fine Meat, which allows you to gain a new pet in a single day. However, you’ll have to spend coins at a vendor to get the item.
