John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando is now out on PC and consoles worldwide, and you can tweak the in-game settings to get the best performance from the zombie shooter.
If you’re on PC, the number of options is much more. We already had a taste of things to come in the recent Steam Fest demo. However, the full version has much more content for us to enjoy, and having stutters and lags will prevent you from getting the maximum returns.
This guide will help you get the best performance from your system.
Best John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando graphics settings
Before I deep dive into the settings, here are my PC specs that I am using to play the game.
- AMD Ryzen 5600G
- 16 GB DDR4 RAM
- NVIDIA RTX 3060 12GB
Here are the graphics settings I am currently using at launch, and the gameplay has been pretty smooth.
- Cinematic Ambiance: Off
- Display Mode: Personal preference
- Render Resolution: Performance
- Resolution Upscaling: DLSS
- Resolution Sharpness: 0.50
- Dynamic Resolution FPS Target: 60
- VSync: Off
- Motion Blur Intensity: Off
- FPS Limit: 60
- Visual Quality Preset: Custom
- Texture Filtering: Medium
- Texture: Low
- Shadows: Low
- SSAO: Low
- SSR: Low
- Effects: Medium
- Details: Low
- Volumetric Effects: Medium
Here are some pointers about the settings I have opted for.
- Turning off VSync: The VSync requires a lot of resources, but it helps to smooth the edges of the graphics. While you’ll get better results visually with it enabled, your GPU might struggle. I have encountered stutters on my system when it is turned on. Hence, it’s best to keep it off at least for the time being.
- FPS Cap: It’s quite ironic that I have capped my FPS when the aim is to take it as high as possible. However, the FPS fluctuates on my system when there are too many undead on the screen. Keeping it capped at 60 allows you to prevent those stutters without sacrificing your ability to aim.
You can tweak the settings further once we receive a few post-launch patches. The patches should hopefully ease some of the graphical issues I have encountered on the opening night.
