All R.E.P.O. Staffs and how they work

Semibots wearing wizard outfits, holding Roll Staff

Why show up to a battle against monsters with a flimsy Inflatable Hammer or whacking like a maniac with a Frying Pan when Staffs exist in R.E.P.O.? Forget placing down Mines, waiting for the right moment to lob a Grenade, or relying heavily on Drones to get you to double-digit levels. It’s time to give a new build a whirl—the Warlock.

At the time of the Cosmetics Update launch on May 7, there are three Staffs to test your magical prowess. Here’s how all Staffs work in R.E.P.O.

R.E.P.O. Staff guide: How to use and what they do

The Indestructible and Feather Drones are go-to items as you slowly invest in upgrades to increase your survivability. Because of this, the Roll and Zero Gravity Drones are often left to collect dust on the Service Station shelves. The Cosmetics Update Staffs attempt to solve this by offering the same properties but with more control on the battlefield. There’s also the glorious addition of the Void Staff, which acts just like Trudge’s mallet, causing a black hole effect to whatever gets in its path. This offers a counter to the toughest monster to kill and a way of payback for his impressive 100 damage attack.

All Staffs are activated by simply pointing the item towards the ceiling and pressing “E.” The gem atop whichever Staff you’re using will glow and spark as if it has exploded. The gleam will remain as the Staff points outwards, no longer upright in front of you. Aim your cursor at the target and press “E” to shoot the projectile. Repeat to keep activating the Staff and cast spells onto monsters. But beware, the Staff deals friendly fire and damages structures (C.A.R.T., Valuables, and other objects). Only cast spells when there’s nothing of value near your target, otherwise you risk destroying Valuables needed to fulfill the quota.

Staff Cost Charges (uses) Function Can it damage?
Zero Gravity Staff
Zero Gravity Staff
$28-32K 10 Lifts enemies caught in its circular radius into the air. Similar effects to the Mentalist (but without the slam attack). This Staff deals no damage. Instead, use this Staff to escape a tricky situation you’ve found yourself in (e.g., dead-end or exfiling to Truck) and fling enemies into the air to follow up with damage from a firearm. Or take this time to run so they forget about you as their patrol path resets. No
REPO Roll Staff
Roll Staff
$22-25K 10 Causes the same effect as the Roll Drone. If the projectile hits one or more enemies at once, they will roll. This can be used to knock monsters off the map and into death pits or to ricochet off a wall so they temporarily take damage from a hard structure. Yes
Void Staff
Void Staff
$16-20K Three This is the Staff-equivalent to Trudge’s mallet. Bringing anything physics-based to a compact area, it doesn’t deal damage to singular monsters. It can, however, cause knockback and collision damage when multiple enemies are caught in it. Use it when there are multiple monsters at once so they hit one another, while also providing a window to escape. It can easily destroy Valuables, so be mindful when using it. Yes (not directly)

Each Staff’s effects can last up to 10 seconds on a target. But, just like most R.E.P.O. items, the Staffs are mostly situational. You cannot always rely on them to get you out of trouble. The unpredictability of this game, plus making sure the area is cleared of any loot of valuable, the C.A.R.T. itself, or fellow semibots is a lot to consider when being pursued by the Robe, Loom, Clown, or Cleanup Crew.
