Mortal Shell 2 has plenty of Shells to give you an advantage in combat, but you’ll need to be selective. Once you reach Marrow Keep, you can get two Shells for free: Proxima and Tiel. However, there are six more to be found, bringing the total to eight.

In this guide, I will help you determine which Shells are best and which are more difficult to use.

To separate the Shells, I have used three different tiers.

• S-tier Shells are the safest options to pick from. They’re easy to use and offer powerful kits to help you slay all the enemies.
• A-tier Shells are viable alternatives to use if you want to try something different.
• B-tier Shells are decent choices, but I find them too difficult to master/use in specific situations.

Before I dive deep into the shells, it’s worth adding that you should always go with your preferred playstyles. Certain shells might have great abilities, but they might not suit your strengths. Always keep that as your priority when it comes to choosing a shell.

S-tier

Shell	Playstyle	Reason
Tiel	Stealth/Mobility	Tiel is one of the fastest Shells and has high critical damage and rate. It can also inflict poison stacks on enemies to amplify the base damage, which is pretty high as is. When you combine his base kit with Shadow Dash, you can escape incoming attacks while also stunning the enemy. With Tiel, you can create your own windows of attack.
Smert	Time management	Imagine having a Shell that can stop time. With Miracle, you can manipulate time whenever you need. You can chain attack windows that can’t be replicated by any other Shell. You can also get health regeneration from your attacks during Fight Stance, and it’s great for beginners/hard bosses.
Proxima	CC	Proxima is arguably the easiest Shell to learn, and she unlocks pretty early. With her kit, you can inflict both CC and AoE damage, allowing you to manage mobs pretty easily. Despite Proxima not fitting into any specific archetype, she’s a great all-rounder who is useful in all kinds of fights.

A-tier

Shell	Playstyle	Reason
Genessa	Clones	Genessa can be equally fun or boring based on how you play. The core playstyle is simple: generate enough Resolve to create clones, who can attack on your behalf. Genessa also offers decent health, making her a good choice for soulslike beginners.
Eredrim	Break damage and counters	Eredrim is a pure fighter, and great for skilful players. Shoulder Bash gives you the chance to break into enemy lines and do Break Damage. You can then combine Executioner with your Riposte to get Slaughterer stacks that clears mobs pretty quick.
Lazlo	Tank	Lazlo is one of the most interesting Shells I have used. On one hand, he’s a pure tank who can absorb a lot of damage. On the other, he has incredible AoE damage potential and can execute enemies with ease. I have put him at A-tier purely because of how long it takes to unlock him.

B-tier

Shell	Playstyle	Reason
Sariel	Invincibility	Sariel’s Pain mechanic makes him completely invincible, but there’s a catch. If you get hit by the enemy, you’ll lose built-up Pain (it can’t be restored). If you’re skilful enough to maintain Pain without losing it, Sariel is S-tier. However, this Shell won’t be suitable for most players.
Gragu	Single-target	Gragu’s greatest strength is also his biggest weakness. When you’re up against a boss, Gragu is one of the safest choices since you can scale up his attacks. However, doing so is extremely cumbersome, and this isn’t feasible against mobs.

If you’re just getting started, your first task is to unlock the shells to add to your collection. I recommend using either Tiel or Proxima for clearing the initial gameplay, since they’re easy to learn and don’t require too much effort to unlock.
