If you struggle with inventory management in Subnautica 2, Biobeds are going to be your best friend. While biobeds within your base act as a new respawn point, the ones within Colonist Bunkers give you permanent upgrades that increase your backpack size and give you extra hotbar slots.

All Colonist Bunker (Biobed) locations in Subnautica 2
In Subnautica 2, you’ll find Biobeds, alongside various utility and decorative items, inside of Colonist Bunkers. You can find these bunkers in the following locations:
- 220 meters southeast of the Lifepod
- 250 meters southwest of the Lifepod
- 220 northeast of the Lifepod (angle 60 on your compass)
- 200 north-northeast of the Lifepod (angle 15 on your compass)
- 380 meters southeast of the Lifepod (requires Heat Tolerance Adaptation)
- 480 meters east of the Lifepod (requires Heat Tolerance Adaptation)
- 440 meters north of the Lifepod.
Colonist Bunker (Chap’s Blackbox) Biobed
The first Biobed location is one you’ll visit if you’re progressing through Subnautica 2’s main storyline. By traveling 220 meters southeast of the Lifepod, you’ll find a bunker hidden inside of a cave known as Chap’s Blackbox location.
The Biobed is on the left side of the room. Interacting with it will give you three additional inventory slots for the remainder of your playthrough. You’ll also find a bioreactor, repair tool, and floor locker to scan.
Colonist Bunker (Quaker’s Meetinghouse) Biobed
The next Biobed location is inside a Colonist Bunker, 250 meters southwest of the Lifepod. As you travel in this direction, you’ll spot a part of a ruined structure’s wall dangling off the side of a cliff. Underneath this is a cliff with an “X” on the ground, marking the location of a secret room.
Once you’re inside the bunker, turn left to find the Biobed. Interacting with it will give you three more inventory slots. You’ll also spot a rebreather, power storage, and tadpole fragment to scan, alongside an advanced wiring kit and copper wire you can stash for later.
Colonist Bunker (Anita’s Garden) Biobed
The third Biobed is inside of a bunker 220 northeast of your Lifepod. Align your view with angle 60 on your compass before moving forward 220 meters and turning back toward the Lifepod. You’ll spot a hole in the cliffside leading to a small cave. Swimming left inside of this cave will bring you to the bunker.
Once you’re in the room, head down the hall and turn right to find the Biobed alongside blueprint scans for miscellaneous furniture items. Like the previous two, you’ll gain additional inventory slots upon interacting with the bed.
Colonist Bunker (Salvage) Biobed
You won’t have to travel far for the next Biobed, as it’s located 200 meters north-northeast of your Lifepod. As you head in this direction and pass the Digestion Angel Comb, you’ll find a platform on the ocean floor with a supply crate, Wakemaker fragment, and a wall rack. Nearby is a hole covered in blue-green coral that holds the Biobed.
As you descend into this hole, travel through the cave until you find a red hatch leading into another Colonist Bunker. Interacting with the Biobed in this room will give you a Dexterity Adaptation, rewarding you with an extra quick-access slot on your tool hotbar. You can also scan the nearby Habitat Builder tool, Repair Tool, and furniture for blueprint fragments.
Colonist Bunker (Nahema’s Lab) Biobed
The next Biobed is slightly farther away, located 380 meters southeast of the Lifepod within the ocean’s high temperature volcanic biome. You’ll need to unlock the Heat Tolerance Adaptation from the Spider Dome Angel Comb before venturing out to this area. Once you have Heat Tolerance, head in this direction until you’re directly above a hole in the ground. Pan your camera northeast to find a crevice in a nearby cave wall.
Upon entering this crevice, you’ll find another hatch leading into Nahema’s Lab. The Biobed is directly to your left. You’ll gain another Dexterity Adaptation upon interacting with it.
Colonist Bunker (Cicada Wreck) Biobed
Similar to Nahema’s Lab, you’ll need to venture 480 meters east of the Lifepod into the volcanic biome. If you don’t already have Heat Tolerance from the previous Biobed spot, grab it from the Spider Dome’s Angel Comb puzzle before swimming toward this point.
As you head east, you’ll eventually spot a large cargo wreck with a small, hidden entranceway on its west side. You’ll find the Biobed in a room by itself, which you can interact with for more inventory slots.
Colonist Bunker (Sophie’s Retreat) Biobed
The final known Biobed location in Subnautica 2 is located 440 meters north of the Lifepod. As you swim in this direction, you’ll eventually find the Old Habitat POI, which’ll appear on your compass for the rest of your playthrough. Rather than entering this wreck, though, your destination is a cave 60 meters north of this POI. After traveling an additional 60 meters north, turn right to find it alongside dozens of Pent plants.
You’ll find another hatch leading to Sophie’s Retreat at the end of the cave. Inside is a Biobed that’ll reward you with three inventory slots, along with several furniture items you can scan for building blueprints.

The Tadpole is your best friend when it comes to deep-sea exploration in Subnautica 2, and we can improve it with some extremely useful upgrades. The upgrades come in different shapes and sizes, but they all improve your submarine in one way or another.
You’ll have to find all the upgrade modules manually, and this guide is here to help you out.
Table of contents
How to find all Tadpode upgrades in Subnautica 2
Before I dive deep, you should note that there’s no fixed way to find these upgrade modules. My sequence is the most optimum one, and you’ll save a lot of time.
Scout Ray Chassis location
This is the only upgrade module that’s not located around the Alien Ruins Research Outpost. Instead, you’ll need to head to the Tadpole Pens in the warm area of the ocean. Head inside, and continue on the straight path. You’ll find the Scout Ray in the Moonpool; scan with your scanner, and we are done.
I highly recommend upgrading to the Scout Ray if you’ve th resources. This chassis gives a huge speed bump to your Tadpole, and it will help save a lot of time during the next steps.
Engine Efficiency upgrade location
Head east from your Lifepod and you’ll find the Alien Ruins Research Outpost at approximately 1300m. Head inside, and turn right. You’ll find the Engine Efficiency upgrade module.
Strike Armor upgrade location
From the Research Outpost, travel between 195 and 210 degrees on the compass. You should aim for a depth of approximately 190m (go gradually instead of taking a sharp dive).
You’ll find the platform with the Strike Armor upgrade at around 60m from the outpost.
Cavitation Muffler upgrade location
This is the furthest upgrade module to find. Return to the front of the outpost. Head to deeper depths while aiming at around 75 degrees east on the compass. You’ll come across the above structure in the image (this is the Power Center). Go past the arc shown in the picture, and then past the pillar.
The screen will become greener, and you’ll find a set of colorful alien plants to your right. Keep to your left, and keep going deeper targetting around 350m of depth. At around 370m of depth, you’ll find a platform on the edge of the cliff on the left (it’s extremely close to the early access area boundary).
Here, you’ll find the Cavitation Muffler upgrade. You should return to the Outpost after obtaining this module.
Photovoltaic Charger upgrade location
Head towards 120 degrees on the compass from the outpost. You’ll find the Blackbox – Iso marker that you should use as your guide. Keep a steady depth of 120m and head straight. You’ll come across an Alterra starship wreck. Park your Tadpole and head inside using the door on the left.
Head straight, turn right, and you’ll find a broken door. Repair the door, and head inside. Then turn left and go to the next room. Take the door to the left corner, and you’ll come across the room with the ISO. The module is diagonally opposite to the dining table that has the ISO on it.
Depth Module Mk. I upgrade location
Return to the front of the Research Outpost. Aim at 165 degrees on the compass, and you’ll find the Blackbox – Ruby 2 pop up on your screen. Head to the spot and reach the bottom layer of the location. You can enter through the broken rocks; I entered through a narrow spot on the left (leave your Tadpole), and you’ll find Ruby 2’s black box.
You’ll also find a broken-down Tadpole, with the Depth Module Mk. 1 beside it.
Haul Chassis upgrade locations
To get the Haul Chassis, you’ll need to scan three fragments. The first one is located just by the Depth Module Mk. 1 upgrade. Once done, return to the Research Outpost and head straight targeting between East and 105 degrees on the compass.
Go past the dome of the Power Center (stick strictly to 105 degrees now), and head straight. Keep heading straight, and you’ll reach another Alterra shipwreck at about 200m depth.
The second Haul Chassis part is on a platform to the left.
To find the final one, you can refer to this guide, which states the location of the final Angel Comb. You’ll want to go past the Angel Comb and head straight, following the root until you reach an acidic pool.
Look to your left past the alien structures after entering the pool room, and you’ll find your final chassis part.
Complete the scan, and your Tadpole will now be able to equip the Haul Chassis.
