The R.E.P.O. Cosmetics Update adds a Mario Kart-like mode where racing determines who exactly is the King of the Losers. But all that fun driving around isn’t limited to the game over screen. Bring Tokyo Drift to the decrepit world where monsters roam and Taxmen laugh at our semibot struggles.
Here are all R.E.P.O. vehicles and how to use them.
R.E.P.O. vehicle guide
There are two vehicles in R.E.P.O. added into the May 7 Cosmetics Update. They appear to be more helpful to those riding solo than a co-op, as each vehicle only has room for one. While a semibot can scout ahead, driving in either scooter comes at a cost. Unlike the two C.A.R.T. variations that let you place cannons inside, the scooters have no means to fight back if monsters are on your tail. You cannot wield items while driving either. Instead, the Scout acts as a quick getaway vehicle or a method to distract and lure monsters, letting you outrun the majority of them. But these vehicles aren’t invincible. Sure, you can lift them up with ease if they ever topple over, but they cannot float across holes in the map. That, plus the drifting mechanic that you can press on autopilot, does put you at risk from as early as level five.
To compare, the Hauler drives similarly to the Scout, but with a useful addition. You can place small Valuables into the back compartment until it reads 100%, indicating it cannot carry more loot. The compartment can hold up to $20K. The Hauler carrying the items counts on any Extraction Point, allowing you to hit the quota without putting your goods at risk from Gnome and Animal attacks. Both vehicles can be destroyed, however. While they can deal damage to monsters scaled by boost, it’s best to prioritize driving through smaller targets. These are Gnomes, Rugrat, Chef, and Headgrab. Do not attempt a hit-and-run on the Apex Predator or Elsa as this will only activate their attack mode. Even the Tick and Upscream can reach you from the front seat.
| Vehicle | Cost | Function |
|---|---|---|
Scout |
$20-24K | Compact scooter that drives low to the ground, capable of outsprinting most monsters pursuing you. Excels at scouting ahead for cosmetic boxes, distracting entities, and locating monster spawns. |
Hauler |
$44-48K | A durable scooter that holds up to $20K in Valuables by dragging and dropping items into its back compartment. If you’re not one to go around fighting monsters, this scooter offers movement and storage without costing what’s equipped in your hotbar. |
Boosting is essential to deal damage, especially against larger monsters such as the Trudge or Clown. Boost is accumulated through the drifting mechanic. To drive in either vehicle, simply click on the hand icon (the same that’s on the C.A.R.T.) to leap into the seat. You have to continuously hold onto the icon as if you were holding a steering wheel, where you propel forward with “W” and drift with “A” and “D” to navigate around the map while accumulating boost for a quick getaway or to run over alerted entities. Both scooters can drive through doors, too, letting you stay inside the vehicle while you scout. To exit the seat, simply jump out of tumbled state.
The Hauler is more durable than the Scout, but their charge is mostly based on the damage these vehicles take, more than the time you’ve spent driving. They can be repaired at the Charging Station with Energy Crystals.
