Crimson Desert, while a fantastic game on its own, has tremendous mod support, allowing players to fine-tune their experience however they see fit. One aspect, that of Kliff, Damiane, and Oongka being the only playable characters, has rubbed players the wrong way since launch, but with mods, that is a thing of the past.
Through a mod created by Khione95, Crimson Desert players will now be able to create their own custom characters using the in-game barber. With 98 faces and 159 hairstyles, you are given total control over how your custom character will look, and the mod even takes the gender of your character into account, as most equipment pieces in the game have been modified to fit a female character.
Even if it is a bit simple at the moment, the modder announced numerous expansions to the mod, including more customization options like eyebrows and eye color, and also additional customizable races such as Orc and Goblin. Some animations remain male-only at the moment, but Khione95 says full replacements with female versions will come along soon, as will more armor and equipment.
This, then, means you’ll be able to completely ditch Kliff as your go-to character and embrace the adventures of Crimson Desert with a character that is entirely your own. Though you’ll still have to “pretend” it’s Kliff in certain quests and such, you’ll have no obligation to suffer the silent stoic any more than you want to, nor will you be required to sacrifice a lot of gameplay options to play as Damiane, whom you have to abandon in Kliff’s favor whenever some locked quest comes about.
The mod even turns Kliff’s voice female, enabling further immersion, even if the name is retained at the moment.
If this is the extent of Crimson Desert‘s early mods, I can’t even imagine what else we’re going to see as time goes by. Modders like Khione95 are doing everything in their power to make Crimson Desert become a full-blown RPG, and I’m positive we’ll start seeing traditional RPG mechanics such as attributes come along in no time.
But, then again, why not just play Black Desert Online?
