You want more from the developers of Crimson Desert? It’s coming, but it’s not quite a sequel to Kliff’s open-world journey.
No, no more medieval melee combat with jetpacks and dragons. According to South Korean outlet INVEN, Pearl Abyss is instead now shifting its focus to its next game, which is called DokeV. If it sounds familiar to you, that’s because it was announced around seven years ago, but it’s finally time for the studio to fully focus on it after finishing Crimson Desert.
And yeah, it’s about time! At a recent shareholder meeting, Pearl Abyss confirmed that DokeV and Crimson Desert were being developed side-by-side, but a large amount of the team swapped to the latter to finish it. Now that it’s released, DokeV will be the main focus.
DokeV first appeared way back in 2019, and outside of a some minor snippets of footage since then, it hasn’t been heard from. But what we have seen is pure ridiculousness, with Pearl Abyss’s trademark stunning visuals.
The reveal trailer shows kids on skateboards with monster-like animals called Dokebi, including a panda bear with boxing gloves and a dog in a t-shirt and crown. It teases a large world map, which Pearl Abyss is wont to do, and the game will run on the same Blackspace engine as Crimson Desert.
“DokeV is an upcoming creature-collecting open world action-adventure from Pearl Abyss filled with intriguing stories and set in a unique, vibrant world,” the game’s description reads. “Meet Dokebi, whimsical creatures that live side-by-side with humans and encourage people’s dreams from which they gain strength. The gorgeous and colorful world of DokeV is brimming with activities, stories, and experiences, so get ready to befriend tons of Dokebi and to embark on an adventure!”
In 2021, Pearl Abyss released a music video that showed some more footage, which was mainly just some children dancing in different outfits while performing a song called “Rock Star.” It’s definitely a bit odd when contrasted with Crimson Desert or even Black Desert Online, so it’s a big departure from what the studio has previously worked on.
But you know what? I dig it. It’s funky and it’s weird, and I will always be open to try a creature collector to see if it can capture the same spark as Pokémon. Unfortunately, since full development is only now beginning, the game is likely several years off, so sit tight.
For more on DokeV, check out its official website while we wait.

Crimson Desert is a single-player game but you don’t have to enjoy your adventures alone. While you can complete all the quests and content on your own, you can do so with your beloved pet. Obtaining your animal companion takes a bit of time when you begin your adventures, and there are two choices to consider.
But first, let’s find out how pets work in Crimson Desert.
Update: Added a table for all types of pets and their favorite food items (offers biggest boost to trust).
Table of contents
How pets work in Crimson Desert
Crimson Desert has a trust system that works between your character and animals. The trust mechanic begins at zero and goes up to 100. This system is universal for all pettable animals, which are two in the current version of the game.
- Cats
- Dogs
The process of getting a pet varies slightly based on your choice.
- If you want to pet a dog, walk up to the animal, and press the applicable button for the interaction prompt.
- If you want to pet a cat, pick it up by getting close to it. Then, select the carry prompt to pet the creature.
When you pet a creature, you gain +5 trust. You can gain up to 25 trust with an animal companion in a single day from this method.
Pets are immensely helpful when they’re active, as they help bring back the loot you get from defeated enemies. However, they will loot everything they can as there’s no filter available in the current build of Crimson Desert. However, it’s still beneficial to have them active; otherwise, you’ll be spending a lot more time getting different loot.

How to add more pets in Crimson Desert
The key to gaining a pet is to take your trust to 100. Once that’s achieved, hold the selection button and press the Claim option. This will register the dog/cat as your pet. You can have up to 30 pets for your adventure, but only one can be active at any given moment.
How to use food to gain trust in Crimson Desert
While playing with cats/dogs helps to gain trust, there’s a daily cap on that. A better way is to use food items. Feeding also helps to improve your trust with them, but there’s a daily cap as well.
- Tough Meat (Feed to a Dog for 10 trust)
- Fine Meat (Feed to a Dog for 35 trust)
- Bird Meat (Feed to a Cat for 10 trust)
- Fish (Feed to a Cat for 10 trust)
- Milk (Feed to a Cat for 10 trust)
Food items have a cap of three per day. In simple words, you can feed a creature at most three times in a given day. If you max out the daily caps, you’ll be able to gain a new pet every two days. The only exception to this is Fine Meat, which allows you to gain a new pet in a single day. However, you’ll have to spend coins at a vendor to get the item.
