Upcoming Resident Evil movie reboot from acclaimed horror director reportedly received rave reviews at recent test screening

Resident Evil 6: a zombie attacking Leon Kennedy at the bottom of some stairs.

I’m kind of on pins and needles about Zach Cregger’s upcoming Resident Evil film reboot, but a bit less so by the day.

I love Resident Evil. Cregger says he does too. Thankfully, I’m a fan of his work on recent popular horror movies like Weapons and Barbarian. But up until now, I’ve been a little skeptical of what he’s going to do with this specific IP after working so strongly on his own original ideas.

Will his brand of horror and humor mesh well with the franchise? Will it be faithful? Well, there’s some good news. According to a report by World of Reel, a recent test screening for Cregger’s Resident Evil went over very well.

It’s been described by those who attended as a fast-paced “horror version of Fury Road” 90-minute “all gas, no brakes” romp set within the world of the games, but without focusing on existing characters like Leon Kennedy or Jill Valentine. Instead, the new film’s main character “works more like a player avatar, just moving from one nightmare scenario to the next.”

The report says the movie “prioritizes momentum over exposition, with minimal character development and a heavy emphasis on forward motion” in its runtime, and the game’s trademark creatures “show up often, practical effects dominate, and the set pieces are front and center.”

“The scope is also small and contained,” the report said. “Instead of a sprawling mythology, Cregger keeps the cast tight and the focus narrow. There’s almost zero world building. Early reactions say it’s far more cinematic than previous Resident Evil movies, with strong visual framing and practical effects doing most of the work.”

This sounds more and more promising to me. Previous Resident Evil movies have done all sorts of different things with the existing universe and canon, to varying results. Cregger’s unique style seems like it may be a good fit for something new entirely.

“Let me say this: this is not breaking the rules of the games,” Cregger said of the reboot last year. “I am the biggest worshiper of the games, so I’m telling a story that is a love letter to the games and follows the rules of the games.”

Cregger’s previous film, Weapons, helped veteran actress Amy Madigan win her first ever Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Her co-star Austin Abrams will star in Resident Evil after his own standout performance.

Resident Evil launches in theaters later this year on Sept. 18.

There’s a unique way to become Jesus (not in the literal sense) in Crimson Desert with the help of Vaporwalker boots, as it allows you to walk over water. You can use these boots to tread across shallow water bodies, and they can also allow you to glide over deeper sections.

Let’s find out how you can get these boots in Pywel.

Vaporwalker boots in Crimson Desert

The Vaporwalker boots can be found inside a chest that’s hidden in the Ancient Heart cave. You’ll need to unlock the Pailune region. Then, you’ll need to reach the Ancient Rift. Approach the cliff from the top and then drop down. Use your flight ability to glide towards a nearby waterfall (location marked on the image above).

Drop on either bank near the midpoint of the waterfall since that’s the entry point. Once you land on the entrance, you’ll need to get through the waterfall. We have a detailed guide on how you can enter a waterfall. In simple words, use a stab attack to go through.

How to get and use the Vaporwalker boots in Crimson Desert

Once you’re past the waterfalls, head inside the cave. You’ll soon come across a breakable wall that can be destroyed with your Force Palm ability. Once you’re through, you’ll find the chest that contains the boots.

Here are the stats of the boots.

  • Attack: 16
  • Defense: 5
  • Refinement: N/A
  • Unique Skill: Skipping Stones

Once you’ve equipped the boots, you can activate their ability by pressing the LS/L3/C button. If you time your move right, it will help you glide along the surface. If you’re in shallow water, you should be able to move across without any problem. You can also use it to cross rivers, but the timing has to be impeccable.
