Echoes of Aincrad has plenty of different weapon types inspired from Sword Art Online, and this guide will figure out your favorites. I have focused on and evaluated all weapon types that are available in the game. While each type has its respective set of pros and cons, some of them seem to perform better.
Ultimately, you can clear the game with any weapon type you like. If you care about the meta (or if there is one at all), read on.

Best weapon types to use in Echoes of Aincrad
There are six weapon types available in the full version of Echoes of Aincrad. I have used three different tiers, but I will emphasize that there’s no ‘bad’ weapon type. I have tested all of them in continuation from the demo, and clearing in-game content hasn’t been an issue.
- S-tier choices feel slightly overpowered, and they’re also pretty easy to master.
- A-tier choices are slightly more niche and harder to learn.
- B-tier choices require a lot of homework if you want to main them.
S-tier
- Two-Handed Axe: The Two-Handed Axe is unparalleled when it comes to clearing enemies. It’s largely due to the Iron Scythe that you can unlock around the midgame (at least in my case). Once you get its MOD, your Sprint Attacks will be enhanced greatly. However, you’ll also increase your Sprint Speed, and that can be heightened with the use of a MOD. In short, you’ll slice through enemies even before they have spotted your shadow around them. There’s a learning curve for sure, but the Two-Handed Axe with the Iron Scythe variant is perhaps the best option you can find.
- Swords: I like Swords despite them not having any kind of special use-case scenario. A sword seems to have little-bit of everything without overtly specializing in any department. That also makes it a good choice for beginners. You also get to bring a shield that can be used to block attacks. I have put Swords in S-tier purely because of how useful they feel for players of all skill levels.
A-tier
- Maces: While Maces are simple to use, they’re no joke with the right builds. They do plenty of damage, and has decent speed. To make most out of a Mace, you’ll need to have a lot of Strength. While the Mace is tad too simplistic for my liking, it will kill plenty of enemies in quick time. You also get to use a Shield, which is quite cool if you, like me, can’t parry when required the most.
- Rapiers: If you like to rely on speed and mobility, Rapiers are worth looking into. I love that you can combine them with Swords. They’re not too complex, but you’ll need to invest heavily into Agility.
- Daggers: If you want to go for full Agility-focused build, it might be worth using Daggers. They do a lot of damage in quick time, and more so if you don’t miss. However, there are some points to remember. Daggers have extremely limited range so you’ll need to get close to the enemies. Secondly, you can’t use a shield, which means that you’ll have to be careful about the enemies.
B-tier
- Two-Handed Swords: I like weapons that are fast and easy to use. The Two-Handed Sword does neither, as they’re extremely heavy. What you do get is tons of damage. However, you’ll have to be precise with your strikes, for you won’t want to miss them. Damage is not an issue; it’s the time it takes to generate an attack. You might end up liking it, but they feel too slow and heavy.
